Northern California Taekwondo Association

Our Mission Statement

The Northern California Taekwondo Association (NCTA) exists to promote friendship, peace and harmony by developing a sense ofunderstanding and mutual respect amongst school, owners, masters and grandmasters, in Northern California to foster an environment of unity and brotherhood.

We will support our athletes, coaches and referees by providing trainings, seminars, competitions, awards and financial sponsorships to major events (for those who meet the criteria).

The History of NCTA

NCTA was founded in 1969 by several Korean Taekwondo masters:  Kang Myung Kyu, Dr. Ken Min, Dr. , Grandmaster Kim Jong Soo, Ahn Young Hwan, Yu Byung Yong, and Choi Bong Young.  At the time of the establishment, Taekwondo masters were few and did not have the Olympic recognition like we do today, and so the few masters gathered and worked diligently to spread Taekwondo and heighten awareness of it’s benefits.  During the 1980's the NCTA began to organize more formally, with Grand Master D.K. Shin as its first official President.  In 2013 the Association amended its legal status to become a Public Benefit  Corporation, and in 2014 was granted federal tax-exempt status as a 501(c)3 charitable organization.
